Senior Match Reports
On Saturday, the 1st XI made the short journey to Hayfield CC in round two of the Readers DCCL Division One league competition. An away trip that
didn't involve the gasworks riddled Mottram Moor was a blessing.
In the absence of Skipper Karl Handforth, vice-captain Nathan Mckeown stepped up to the plate. Hayfield won the toss and elected to field. Kez Davies and
Tom Pugh opened the innings and put on 44 before Davies was bowled for a useful 21. Mckeown came in at 3 and helped to push the total along to 102 before he
was bowled for 25 (which contained 5 x 4's). Pugh continued to bat superbly and scored 50 with boundaries aplenty (5 x 4's & 2 x 6's) before being stumped.
Gav Cole scored 22 and other useful contributions came from Damian Weatherhead (18) Tom Scott (13) and Harvey Pearson (10).
Tintwistle closed the innings on 191 after 44 overs.
In response Hayfield never really got going and lost wickets on a regular basis. Tom Scott and Alex Brown opened for Tintwistle and were straight into the
wickets. Miller and H Wyatt were dispatched by Brown and at 18-2 Hayfield were on the ropes. Brown and Scott ripped through the top six with only two batters
reaching double figures. J Wyatt was the standout performer for the home side and scored an unbeaten 36. Matt Robinson and Stuart Rose mopped up the tail and
Hayfield were blasted out for 95.
Rose finished with figures of 1-13, Scott a cool 2-27, Robinson a tidy 3-27 but the pick of the bunch was Brown who bagged 4-26. Also worthy of note is
Gloveman Mckeown who snared a couple of victims behind the sticks.
Mckeown will be happy with his troops, 19 match winning points, his top six batsmen reached double figures and the bowling fired on all cylinders. Next week
the 1st XI are back on home turf and welcome Old Glossop to the SCG.
Meanwhile back at Speedwell the 2nd XI ran out worthy winners against Pott Shrigley. Tintwistle batted first and scored 128 all out with the standout
performer Steve "Shot of the Day" Morris who scored 46. In response, Pott Shrigley were bowled out for 56. Next weekend the two's are on the road to Dinting.
Lot's happening at Speedwell next week so watch out for the weekly schedule which will be released tomorrow.
