Senior Match Reports

Earlier today the 1st XI travelled to Hazel Grove in Round 4 of the Readers DCCL Division One. Grove won the toss and elected to bat first on their home patch.

Alex Brown and Matt Robinson took the ball for TCC and it was Robinson who struck first with Burke (3) caught by Gloveman Nathan Mckeown. From here Grove dug in and pushed the scoreboard to 43-2 before Burnard (25) was caught by Gavin Cole off the bowling of Alex Brown. Evans (9) was in at 3 and hung around for a while before he was caught by Tom Pugh off the bowling of Stuart Rose.

Coram was in at 4 and scored 4 before Rose collected his second wicket of the day trapping him lbw. Rose struck again shortly afterwards bowling Lomas for a useful 20. At 85-5 it was the point in the innings where it could go either way.

From this point forward the home side lost regular wickets. The culprit was the ever-impressive Pugh who took 3 wickets in quick time fashion. D Nunn (2) caught and bowled, Rodgers (1) caught by Brown and Hewitt (0) trapped lbw. Pugh had done his job and Grove were 94-8.

Rose was in the mix again bowling C Nunn (0) before Robinson finished completed the task snaring Hodkinson for 14.

Hazel Grove finished on 114 all out after 40 overs. Brown finished with figures of 1-34 off 12, Robinson 2-22 off 10 and Pugh 3-21 off 8. The pick of the bunch was Rose who finished with a fantastic 4-30 off 10 overs.

Kez Davies and Pugh opened the batting for Tintwistle but Pugh (1) was quickly caught by Hewitt off the bowling of Nunn. Skipper Karl Handforth was in at 3 and notched up 10 before D Nunn had him caught by Hewitt. At 18-2 Nathan Mckeown strode to the crease and it was game on.

From this point forward Davies and Mckeown took control of proceedings. Davies (37) and Mckeown (44) pushed the scoreboard in a positive fashion. Both batsmen batted with determination and commitment and took Tintwistle over the finish line without the loss of any further wickets. Tintwistle finished on 116-2 and collected 20 points.

The victory moved Tintwistle to second in the league on 75 points, 2 points ahead of Dinting and 3 points off league leaders Woodley.

We spoke to Skipper Karl Handforth after the game who mentioned the excellent fielding that had been on display and lauded what an excellent day it had been overall!

Meanwhile back at HQ, the 2nd XI welcomed the challenge of Hollingworth CC. Hollingworth were bowled out for 97, but Tintwistle sneaked over the line with George Hargreaves hitting the winning 4 to push the home side to 101-9.

What a great day for young George and the Tintwistle club. Both Senior teams are 4-4 and the club is on a very positive trajectory. Next weekend the 2nd XI is on the road at Buxworth whilst the 1st XI face a tough challenge against Dove Holes at Speedwell.
