Torndoes U13’s beat Broadbottom
Tintiwistle faced Broadbottom in the last match of the u13’s 2016 season. The two teams were expected to be quite evenly matched.
Tintwistle got the ball rolling in the 4th over thanks to an excellent catch from Lenny Harrison, which left the Broadbottom score at 12-1. Tom Chambers opened the bowling from the pavilion end and a wicket maiden from him in his 2nd over made it 12-2. The standout bowler of the day for Tintwistle proved to be Joe Hennicker. Joe is a developing pace bowler who looks to attack the stumps, a tactic which has worked well for him this season. Joe took took 3-2 off his 3 overs. Broadbottom were soon rocking at 22-6 thanks to a direct hit run out from George Ainslie. Tintwistle were fielding in a typically fearless fashion, this included a catch each for Jack Morris, Charlie Morris, Tom Chambers and also a second run out of the day, this time after some quick thinking from Joe Hennicker.
Broadbottom finished their innings 57 all out. Other notable bowling performances were Jack Morris (3 overs 1-7), Tom Chambers (3 overs 1-5), and wicket keeper Ben Tinsley who discarded his keeping attire to take 1-7 off his 2 overs.
The Tintwistle run chase suffered an early hiccup when Joe Hennicker was bowled with the score on 0. Jack Morris (25 retired) and Tom Chambers (18 not out) built a rock-solid partnership to take the score to 41 before Jack had to retire for the second game running. Jack’s innings included a huge 6, which was met with a gleeful reaction from his watching team mates. Charlie Morris was not out at the end as he and Tom safely guided Tintwistle to their target for the loss of 4 wickets.
So the season ends on a high note after a pair of convincing victories. A big well done goes out to the under 13’s, their overall enthusiasm for involvement in the sport & purposeful practice throughout the season has undoubtedly started to show results.
