Tinsle cruise to victory under watchful eye of our New Senior Sponsor!

On Saturday, TCC welcomed Broadbottom to the Speedwell Cricket Ground. This was not only the first game of the season but also the first with our new Senior Sponsor – Syndicate Original. Syndicate Original is the official clothing and merch line of YouTube Legend Tom Cassell, aka ‘Syndicate’. Alice Cassell (Brand Manager) commented, “We are delighted to be sponsoring Tintwistle Cricket Club. It’s great to be associated with a local team and we wish them every success for the forthcoming season.” TCC Chair, Mike Barber stated, “we are tremendously pleased to have such a cool brand associated with TCC. On behalf of the club I would like to thank Tom and Alice for their support.”

On a glorious day Broadbottom won the toss and elected to bowl first. Karl Handforth and Pete Higginbottom opened up and built a solid start. Higginbottom (13) was the first wicket to fall with the score on 36.  Handforth (22) was bowled by S Croft and a tricky patch lay ahead for Tintwistle. Poor running between the wickets and shot selection resulted in the loss of 3 further quick wickets – Rakesh Patel (3), Gavin Cole (3) and Rick Harris (13) meant Tinsle were in a worrying position at 62-5. Cole was unfortunate with the cruel way he was snared. Ryan Nixon made a useful contribution of 13 but the defining partnership was that of Skipper James Pool (33) and Kez Davies (20). Martin Harris chipped in with 5 to leave Tintwistle on 148-8 after the full complement of 45 overs. S Croft and C Cheetham-Roberts were the pick of the bowlers who finished with 3 wickets each.

On a slow and soft deck, it was a competitive total and Broadbottom would need to graft to secure victory. Much like the first innings, Broady got off to a solid start with the score on 28 when R Welsh (15) was superbly caught by Ricky Harris. Wickets then began to tumble at regular intervals. The key wicket was that of A Walsh (31) who was caught in the deep off the bowling of Ryan Nixon. The scoreboard was almost identical to the Tintwistle innings at 67-5 – game on! The final defining moment of the game occurred when the partnership between J Riley (18) and the dangerous P Rowston (27) was broken. Both wickets fell to wily old fox Martin Harris. The tail was soon dispatched as Broady were all out for 104.

All four Tinsle bowlers bowled tight lines and made it difficult for the Broady batsmen. Pete Higginbottom was miserly with figures of 1-14 off 8 overs. Stuart Rose, our new signing from Denton West, had a great first outing finishing with 2-32. Ryan Nixon’s craft resulted in a superb 3-21 off 9.5 overs. However, the mercurial Martin Harris topped the bowling charts with 4-32 off 9 overs.

Tintwistle ran out worthy winners and partied hard into the night. The 2017 season is up and running and the team are looking forward to next weeks trip to Dinting.

The MVP Award went to Martin Harris with a total of 8.6 points.

Unfortunately, the TCC 2nd XI lost the opposing fixture at Broadbottom but are sure to bounce back next week.
