Mixed weekend against Dinting
On Saturday Tintwistle CC 1st XI made the short journey to Dinting in Round 2 of the IM DCCL. With the weather somewhat gloomy and cold, Dinting won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first.
Karl Handforth and Pete Higginbottom opened up and got off to a solid start. Higginbottom (10) was caught behind off the bowling of Brightmore with the score 31-1. The Tintwistle middle order largely misfired with further wickets lost in quick succession. With the score reading 54-3, Tintwistle looked in desperate trouble. In strode Ricky Harris who had other ideas. Harris and Handforth worked hard moving the score to 86 before Handforth fell to Liebenberg. Handforth batted well and his contribution of 42 was tremendously useful. Harris batted superbly and quickly moved through the gears. Kez Davies went for 7 before Skipper James Pool continued the positive batting with Harris. Greg Harwick snared Pool (19) before Harris was finally stumped Gerrard having made a fantastic 82. The end of Harris signalled the end for Tintwistle as the tail collapsed.
Tintwistle finished on competitive 192 with the pick of the Dinting bowlers being Greg Harwick who took 4-30 off 11 overs.
Dinting needed to start well in order to chase down the total and that is exactly what they did. Harwick (40) and Bleakley (30) got the scoreboard ticking over before Stuart Rose snared both with the score at 71-2. Wyche came in at 3 and continued the good work with plenty of positive batting. Martyn Knight was in at 4 and got off to a steady start. He was dropped in the deep on not very many and took full advantage of his second life. He also appeared to pick up an injury which did nothing short of spurring him on. He carved the Tintwistle bowlers to all parts in a dominating performance with the bat. He scored 74 runs and steered Dinting to a comfortable victory winning by 7 wickets.
Tintwistle will be looking to bounce back in next weekend’s fixture against Hadfield.
In the corresponding fixture, the Tintwistle 2nd XI collected a well deserved victory against Dinting 2nd XI. Tintwistle batted first with a useful contribution of 25 from Mark Lilley and Skipper Simon Barrow who scored 56 not out. Barrow also topped the bowling charts with 3-12 off 11 overs. It was a tremendously close finish but Tintwistle closed out a 9 run victory.
