Tintwistle CC 2nd XI welcomed Stalybridge St Pauls CC to the SCG in the Hawke Trophy. On a warm day, the home side won the toss and elected to bat first. Steve Morris (2) was judged lbw early on but Mark Lilley (58) and Ricky Harris (62) put on 132 for the 2nd wicket. Simon Barrow (33), Jack Booth (14) and Andy Tomlinson (16) made useful contributions in the middle order.
Tintwistle finished on 207-5 after the full complement of 40 overs.
In response, Stalybridge lost Mike Whitworth (4) with the score 9-1. Khalid Akram (1) came and went leaving the score 12-2. Stuart Nock (31) pushed the score along but lost Stephen Monks (11) with the score 44-3. From here on, Stalybridge struggled to keep up with the run chase. Aside from Peter Coxon (10) nobody reached double figures and the visitors were bowled out for 89 after 39 overs.
The Tintwistle bowling and fielding was particularly impressive. Dan Robinson and Jonathon Booth each collected a couple of wickets. Ethan Tomlinson bowled superbly well and finished with figures of 1-15 off 8 overs. Jack Morris looked the part taking 1-9 off 6 overs with 3 maidens. However, the pick of the bowlers was Josh Hutton who finished with 4-21 off 8 overs.
Tintwistle Skipper Simon Barrow will be very pleased with the first outing of 2018. Whilst greater challenges lie ahead, this was a fantastic start for Tinsle.
