The Norman Barber Trophy
We’re pleased to announce the winner of the 2018 1st XI Batting average will receive the Norman Barber Trophy.
The trophy has been donated by former player and long time supporter of the club Darren Jarratt. This is a wonderful gesture from Darren and something the Barber family are incredibly pleased about.
Norman passed away in 2013 having devoted his entire life to Tintwistle Cricket Club.
Norman began his career in 1954 and became Captain of the Junior XI which won the Glossop and District League Junior Championship. He made his senior debut aged 13 in 1957 which began an unbroken record number of appearances before he retired in 2003. He was a member of one of the most successful 1st XI teams during the 1970’s and 1980’s and contributed to a record number of championship and cup victories. Norman was an aggressive batsman, an excellent bowler and an outstanding first slip fielder.
He scored over 10,000 runs, took over 850 wickets and snared over 300 catches during his TCC senior career.
Father of current Chair, Mike Barber, Mike commented “I’m incredibly proud that Darren has chosen to honour my Dad in this way. He played a key role for this club both on and off the pitch and his records are worthy of this recognition. This Trophy represents Tintwistle CC history and heritage and I look forward to presenting it to the winner later this year”.
Each year the trophy will be awarded to the winner of the 1st XI Batting Average at the Club’s Annual Dinner.
