Another great weekend for Tintwistle!

On Saturday Tintwistle welcomed Hayfield to Speedwell. Tintwistle won the toss and home Skipper James Pool elected to bat first. Hayfield got off to a flyer when Woods plucked a catch from thin air after a thunderous strike from Gavin Cole (3). The ball wasn’t worthy of a wicket, but the catch most certainly was. Karl Handforth (6) soon departed caught off the bowling of Ebbrell. At 19-2 Tintwistle were not in a great place and with Kez Davies (7) judged lbw soon after the home side were on the ropes at 31-3. In stepped Damian Weatherhead, the player who has returned to play at Speedwell, scored a superb knock of 58. Matt Robinson contributed 13 prior to being stumped (South) off the bowling of Adamson. Some clean hitting from James Pool (26) and Stuart Chamley (12) ensured Tintwistle finished on 144-5.
Whilst the slow outfield didn’t help the batting team, Hayfield bowled very well to contain the score. Woods and Ebbrell both bowled tight lines picking up a wicket each and Adamson collected a couple of wickets.
Stuart Chamley was given the new ball and provided a superb start securing the wicket of Wood (caught by Handforth at gully) from the first ball of the innings. Russ Evans – a persistent thorn in the side of Tintwistle over the years – was judged lbw off Chamley. At 13-2, it was game on. Davies (38) provided some stability coming in at number 3. From here wickets began to tumble as the home side turned the screw. Gemmell (12), Ebbrell (11) and Nobblett (16) kept it interesting but Hayfield were struggling against the bowling side. A cameo of 15 from Woods at the end pushed the score to 109 before they were bowled out.
The pick of the bowlers was Chamley – the new signing looked at home on Speedwell and finished with 4-28. Martin Harris also somehow managed to finish with 4-16! Worthy of mention was Handforth who snared 3 catches in the field. Next week Tintwistle CC 1st XI are on the road at Dove Holes.
Meanwhile in the 2nd XI fixture, Tintwistle travelled to Newton and were asked to bat first. Mark Lilley (10) and Steve Morris (11) opened the innings and got things going for Tintwistle. Jack Booth contributed a very useful 33 at number 3. Skipper Simon Barrow came in at 4 and scored an impressive 55. Tintwistle finished on 142 all out.
In reply, the significant contributions for Newton came from Penney (32) and Edwards (17) but the bowlers dominated proceedings. Ethan Tomlinson finished with 3-27 and Simon Barrow and Josh Hutton collected 2 wickets each. Tintwistle ran out worthy winners on this difficult trip away from home. Next week the 2nd XI host Dove Holes at Speedwell.
