Week 2 Match Report

Tintwistle vs Buxworth
Saturday 4th May 2019
Speedwell Cricket Ground

After a washout of the fixtures on the first weekend the cricket season got off to a crackling start for Tintwistle first eleven. On what was a sunny but cold day at the SCG, Buxworth won the toss and asked Tintwistle to bat. Tintwistle without new signing Joshua Smith to open so captain Karl Handforth was joined at the crease by Kieran Davies. The pair started with a steady run rate with the captain taking on the responsibility of playing the shots. It didn’t take Davies long however to hit his first maximum with a glorious shot to the mid on boundary. He and Karl took Tintwistle to their first 100 opening partnership of the season! With The Skipper hitting 12 boundaries on his way to 73, until he was bowled by a beauty from Dave Marchington the score on 137. Davies was joined by Nixon who put on 49 until he received a shooter which hit his off stump for a well played 78. Pool(10) was next to the crease unfortunately was bowled by Hammond. Debutant and oversees amateur Hayden Clancy joined Nixon with Tintwistle already in possession of full batting points. 223/3 Nixon and Clancey would see the score tick over nicely and running a plenty. With the big frame of Nixon taking plenty of air! Clancey would play one of the shots of the day to match if not better Davies’ strike from earlier on in the innings with a sumptuous shot off Mid off for 4. Nixon would take advantage of the situation and move from 50-100 in a matter of a few overs bringing his century from a one bounce four to the square leg boundary. 45 overs was up and Tintwistle amassed 319/3 Nixon 123 not out and Clancey 19 not out.

Half time thoughts were that Tintwistle had tasked Buxworth with a heavy total to chase with a required run rate of 7 an over.

Alex Brown took the first over and it only 3 balls to take the wicket of Reynolds bowled for 0. He would then take Buxworth’s other opener in his 2nd over adjacent to middle stump. His opening Partner Clancey desperately unlucky to have his delivery fall just short of a diving 2nd slip. Brown would then take a wicket with the final 2 balls of his 4 over to claim all 4 wicket. Buxworth Were in serious trouble on 15/4… it wouldn’t take long as Clancey claimed his maiden TCC wicket trapping Sellars in front for 0. Wickets countinued to fall as Brown claimed his 5th and 6th before ending his spell. Rose and Jack Morris would be given the chance to finish the job and they didn’t disappoint and the veteran inswinger bowled both of his victims and Jack Morris with a beautiful seaming delivery to claim his first 1st XI wicket.. Buxworth were all out for 28 and TCC romped to a 291 victory!
Brown finishing with 6-3-8-6 Clancey 6-1-12-1 Rose 2.4-0-6-2 and Morris 2-1-1-1. A good all round performance and positive start ahead of Saturday’s trip to Hazel Grove.

Unfortunately a depleted second eleven suffered defeat at the hands of Woodley. Bowling first the lads restricted Woodley to a modest 130-9 off the 45 overs. 3 wickets for the veteran Jay Patel, 2 a piece for Matt (Fez) Woodward and Charlie Harris, one for skipper Si Barrow and a wicket for young Will Moss who finished with great figures of 3-10-1.

Unfortunately none of the team were able to get going with the bat and were bowled out for 82. The second eleven welcome Dove Holes second team to Speedwell this weekend, 1pm start.
