Week 3 Match Report
Hazel Grove CC v Tintwistle CC
Saturday 11th May 2019
Tintwistle first team continued there impressive start to the season with another emphatic victory over their hosts Hazel Grove on Saturday. Winning the toss skipper Karl Handforth had no hesitation to bowl first on a deck that appeared would offer some early assistance.
Arriving at the last minute due to some challenges on the A6 inform bowler Alex Brown soon got into his stride removing Grove’s two openers and the number 4, leaving the hosts 33-3. Alex and fellow opener Hayden Clancey bowled tightly and didn’t let the opposition get into any kind of rhythm. Both openers were replaced after the bright opening spells and into the attack came Matt Robinson and Stuart Rose. The engine room of the Tintwistle attacked kicked in and between them bowled 22 overs, 6 wickets for 53 runs. This partnership really set the foundation for the victory and Matt Robinson in particular finishing with figures of 12-28-4, Stuart Rose 10-25-2.
Grove put up some resistance for the last wicket putting on 23 runs but tight bowling from Si Barrow, Jack Morris and the return of Alex Brown to finish the innings off meant they never got away. The hosts were restricted to 114 All out, Alex Brown finishing with figures of 6.2-26-4.
Off the back of a 300+ total last week Tintwistle were confident of chasing down the score on what was becoming an easier deck to bat on. They chased the runs down in style again with openers Karl Handforth (65) and Kieran Davies (44) sharing an unbroken opening stand to take the lads to victory.
Unfortunately a very young second team lead by stand in skipper Martyn Thompson couldn’t record their first win of the season at home to a strong Dove Holes team. Batting first Tintwistle were bowled out for 71, with the only notable contributions coming from Matt Woodward (13), young Charlie Harris (10) and Dan Robinson (10). Dove made light work of the total winning inside 12 overs for the loss of just two wickets.
The teams go again this week first team hosting Hadfield at Speedwell and the seconds away to Broadbottom. We will be playing the FA Cup final at the club, bar open from 4pm so hope to see you there.
Finally the junior teams have also been in action this week with a mixed bag of results. Next game is U11 away to Broadbottom on Sunday.
