TCC 1st XI made the short journey to St Andrews on a warm and sunny day. Hadfield won the coin toss and asked Tintwistle to bat first. Pete Higginbottom and Karl Handforth opened the innings and got off to a brisk start. Boundaries were plentiful before Handforth was run out in very unlucky fashion. AJ Harris strode to the crease and came and went without troubling the scorers.
In came Ricky Harris with the score on 28-3. Harris and Higginbottom put on a superb partnership of 89 runs before Higginbottom was given LBW for a magnificent 52. Kez Davies was next in and continued his fine form with the bat. Davies’ innings was both composed and desstructive in equal measure. Moving through the gears past 50 he made 78 before being stumped. Ryan Nixon added 10 more to leave Tintwistle on 246-6 after the full compliment of 45 overs. The pick of the Hadfield bowlers was A Ball who took 2-37.
In reply, Hadfield built a solid innings Hirst 31, Wyche 20, and Doyle 33. At 91-3, the game was in the balance. However, the scales tilted towards Tintwistle as the bowlers ripped through the middle order and mopped up the tail. Martin Harris took 4-28, Matthew Robinson 3-11 with Higginbottom and Nixon chipping in with wickets.
Hadfield were bowled out for 137 and Tintwistle collected the match winning points. Things are on the up at Tintwistle and Handforth and Nixon are strong additions to the team both on and off the pitch. The next three weeks will shape TCC’s 1st XI season with fixtures against Hawk Green, Mottram and Dinting.

Looking back there a number of positives for TCC to take from this weekends cricket. There was a 5 wicket haul by TCC Junior Chris Joy in the 2nd XI fixture against New Mills on Saturday. A superb spell of bowling for the TCC Junior! Unfortunately, the Seconds went on to the lose the match.
On Sunday morning the Under 11’s played Broadbottom (pictured above) and played some well organised and tidy cricket. Fantastic to see the two teams enjoying the game which resulted in Tintwistle running out worthy winners.
On Sunday the 2nd XI played Broadbottom in the Hawke Cup and almost pulled off a comeback last seen in The Great Escape. Broady needed 20 odd for the last wicket and played with composure to cross the line and progress to the next round of the Hawke Cup. TCC played well to get back into the game as it looked a lost cause at one stage in Broady’s innings.
On Sunday the 1st XI travelled to Broadbottom in the first round of the Bissenden Cup. Broadbottom elected to bat at home and closed on 249-7, Chris Cheetham-Roberts with 99 and Rick Baron 73 as Pete Higginbottom took 4-34. Tintwistle bowled well in the final quarter of the match to restrict the home side to under 250.
Tintwistle chased the target thanks to Ricky Harris with 81, Kez Davies 65 and Ryan Nixon with 47 in a total of 250-4. What a well constructed innings, composure from Harris, backup from Davies and domination from Nixon. A Superb Team Effort!
This coming weekend both Senior teams face Hadfield.
